Mobile Cash Distribution Empowers 2,150 Beneficiaries in Kirotshe Health Zone

Empowering Vulnerable Communities Through Flexible Cash Assistance

In June 2024, ActionAid International DRC, in collaboration with APES and with the support of the Humanitarian Fund (FH), carried out a multi-purpose cash distribution as part of the ABRIS-AME project in the Kirotshe health zone, Masisi territory, North Kivu. The initiative aimed to provide vital financial assistance to vulnerable populations, giving them the means to meet their immediate shelter-related needs.

Supporting Vulnerable Communities

The cash distribution targeted 2,150 beneficiaries, including:

  • 401 male-headed households
  • 1,340 female-headed households
  • 409 persons with disabilities (PWDs)

Funds were transferred using mobile money services, ensuring a safe, efficient, and transparent process. This method eliminated logistical barriers and allowed beneficiaries to access their financial support without needing to travel long distances.

Promoting Dignity and Autonomy

The use of cash-based assistance empowered beneficiaries by giving them the freedom to prioritize their own needs. Households could make choices aligned with their specific circumstances, enhancing dignity and independence.

One female beneficiary expressed her appreciation for the flexibility this method offered:

"The cash transfer allowed us to manage our urgent needs safely and without delay. Having control over how to spend the money makes a real difference in our lives."

Inclusive and Accessible Assistance

The ABRIS-AME project places a strong emphasis on inclusivity, with special efforts to ensure that women and PWDs were actively involved in the process. Beneficiaries received assistance to help them navigate the mobile money system, ensuring that all participants could easily access their funds.

Part of a Larger Multi-Sectoral Response

The ABRIS-AME project, launched in February 2024, is designed to offer multi-sectoral support to populations affected by violence in Masisi. With a budget of $700,000, the project focuses on emergency shelter, essential household items, and dignity kits. This cash distribution complements the project’s overall goals by giving households the tools to meet immediate needs in a dignified and flexible manner.

Through the ABRIS-AME project, ActionAid International DRC, with APES and the Humanitarian Fund, continues to strengthen the resilience of displaced communities, providing inclusive support that restores hope and stability in North Kivu
