1265 Women and Girls in Kirotshe Health Zone Receive Support in Purchasing Dignity Kits

In May 2024, ActionAid International DRC, in partnership with APES and supported by the Humanitarian Fund (FH), successfully distributed multipurpose cash to 1,265 women and girls in the Kirotshe health zone, Masisi territory, North Kivu. This initiative aimed to empower female beneficiaries by enabling them to purchase essential dignity kits tailored to their personal hygiene needs.

Targeted Support for Women and Girls

Among the beneficiaries, 81 women and girls with disabilities (PWDs) received vital financial support, highlighting the project’s commitment to inclusivity. The cash distribution was facilitated through mobile money transfers, ensuring that the process was both secure and efficient, allowing beneficiaries to access their funds quickly.

Ensuring Effective Use of Cash

Prior to the cash distribution, ActionAid engaged with beneficiaries to educate them on the intended use of the funds. This pre-distribution engagement aimed to ensure that the cash would be utilized specifically for purchasing dignity kits, which include essential hygiene products to support women's health and well-being, especially in challenging circumstances.

A Dignified Approach to Personal Hygiene

The provision of dignity kits empowers women and girls to maintain their personal hygiene, significantly improving their quality of life. One beneficiary expressed her gratitude, stating:

"Having the ability to choose what I need to support my hygiene gives me a sense of dignity and confidence."

A Step Towards Greater Autonomy

This cash distribution aligns with the broader goals of the ABRIS-AME project, which focuses on providing multi-sectoral support to individuals affected by violence in the region. By providing financial assistance, ActionAid empowers women and girls to take control of their health and hygiene, fostering greater autonomy and resilience within the community.

Continuing the Commitment to Vulnerable Populations

As part of the ongoing ABRIS-AME project, which runs from February to July 2024 with a total budget of $700,000, these cash distributions play a crucial role in supporting the needs of vulnerable populations in Masisi. With a focus on emergency shelter, essential household items, and dignity kits, ActionAid International DRC remains dedicated to enhancing the well-being and dignity of affected communities.
